I, the moon dog [2018]
I, The Moon Dog combines images of the mysterious island Skellig Michael, off the coast of Ireland, with dream-like ritualistic figures from Tierra del Fuego, the archipelago at the southernmost tip of South America. I associate the masked figures with Caliban, the 'underdog' enslaved by Prospero in Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. One theory of the derivation of the name Caliban relates it to kalbun , the Arabic word for 'dog'. The native culture of Tierra del Fuego is now extinct and the piece is a reflection on the bitter legacy of European colonisation.
